Choosing a new tumblr theme is like the 2014 version of re-doing my AIM profile, except I used more HTML back then.
A little Tuesday afternoon inspo!
How to discern this is what we need some guidance on…

#de young art museum
This weekend I went to check out the De Young Art Museum. It was a gorgeous day and there were a lot of people out in Golden Gate Park. The museum architecture juts out and above the park and in Photo #1 you can see the tower with the observation deck, which had very cool views.
Photo #2 is a sculpture called Anti-Mass, made of the burned wood charcoal of a Southern Baptist Church. It was powerful to walk into the gallery to be met by this sculpture floating from the ceiling, and to realize it came from an effort to transcend tragedy and hate.
Photo #3 is a close-up of a sculpture that’s basically copper wrappers (from liquor bottles) woven together. The whole piece can be seen in Photo #4. Now that takes patience.

When I moved to a “gentrifying” neighborhood after college, my brother gave me pepper spray to keep on my keychain. Later I moved to a nicer neighborhood which was then terrorized by a brutal serial rapist over a couple months. I realized that on the night of his first attack, I had been walking around the area after dark by myself, just about an hour before he got his first victim.
I’ve always said I should take a self-defense class, but I just haven’t yet (maybe because I don’t want to admit there are real threats out there). And after hearing about the rampage around UCSB, I know such a class wouldn’t help against a lunatic with a gun. There’s no pepper spray for a misogynist with guns and ammunition. And women shouldn’t have to think of ways to protect themselves against a**holes who don’t think of us as equal human beings, but we do.
